Ayesha Gallion is a mother, published writer, and an English instructor of high school and college students.
Teaching comprehension, American and British Literature, creative writing, and journalism is one of Ayesha's greatest achievements and continues to be a fulfilling occupation and lifestyle. She teaches at a magnet high school for the arts in Newark, New Jersey. Recently Ayesha joined the adjunct staff of Essex County College in West Caldwell as an English Instructor.
As a published writer, Ayesha has written extensively about trends in lighting and accessories and has interviewed industry leaders/designers such as Yves Behar, Nadja Swarovski, and Torde Boontje. She has written for Home Lighting & Accessories magazine, where she served as associate editor, and has freelanced for Interior Design magazine's online news section Designwire Daily. She was formerly the associate news producer at NJ.com under Dean Betz and the sole newspaper reporter for the West Orange Chronicle under Anthony Puglisi.
She is also a Geraldine R. Dodge Fellow and observed the effects of creative writing in rural destinations during a visit to the historic Puna district in Pahoa, Hawaii at the Kalani Oceanside Retreat.
Ayesha wrote a self-help book about the challenges of stepparenting, No More Baby's Mama Drama, published via Kensington in 2005. She has since discussed the challenges of step-parenting in The Star-Ledger newspaper, Sister2Sister magazine and on New York City's 98.7 KISS FM, where she was twice a guest. No longer married, Ayesha draws upon her experiences to ponder the challenges -- and hidden blessings -- of healthy and peaceful child rearing and parental development.
Ayesha attends Rutgers University's Master of Arts in English program, where she concentrates in Women and Gender Studies.
She is currently working on the successful publication of her first novel and writing her second. Occasionally, when moved by life's happenings, she will write a poem or two -- although not nearly as many as she did when she was a student at Morgan State University. She and her two children, whom she adores, reside in New Jersey. She can reached at ayeshagallion@yahoo.com.
